Prerequisites

EMT TRAINING PROGRAM PREREQUISITES:

  • You must be 18 years of age to enroll
  • You must have a copy of your High School Diploma, GED Certificate, or Ability to Benefit Test
  • You must have the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare provider card at the start of class (We certify you on Day 1 of class.).
  • You must have and bring a copy of your Hepatitis B Vaccination
  • You must have and bring a copy of your Tuberculosis Skin Test (must be within the past 6 months)

At completion of our EMT Training Program with over 160 hours of Didactic and Skills Training + Clinical Ride-Along Time at local hospitals and EMS agencies, students will be able to:

  • Utilize therapeutic communication to care for culturally, and developmentally diverse patients.
  • Apply basic anatomy and physiology knowledge to assess and prioritize patient treatment to
    transport.
  • Identify life-threatening situations and demonstrate BLS skills.
  • Maintain professionalism and recognize moral and ethical dilemmas.
  • Utilize critical thinking to prioritize a medical or trauma patient, complete an appropriate
    assessment, and develop a plan of action.
  • Recognize, execute, and manage patients with appropriate medications according to their scope
    of practice in accordance with local and state protocols.

Professional Conduct and Compassion (Affective Learning):

Throughout the EMT program, students will develop the professionalism and behavioral standards expected in the field of emergency medical services. Emphasis is placed on fostering empathy, effective communication, and teamwork, equipping students to provide patient-focused care while collaborating seamlessly with other healthcare professionals.

Cognitive Development:

By the end of the EMT program, students will possess a strong ability to understand, utilize, and evaluate essential clinical knowledge required for their role as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). This foundational understanding covers critical aspects of emergency care, such as managing airways, providing ventilation, responding to cardiac emergencies, addressing medical and traumatic conditions, and navigating EMS operational procedures.

Skill Mastery:

Graduates of our Utah EMT Training will gain hands-on expertise in performing the practical tasks essential to the EMT profession. These skills, rooted in the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, National EMS Education Standards, and National Model EMS Clinical Guidelines, include—but are not limited to—conducting patient assessments, managing airways, administering medications, applying splints and bandages, and implementing spinal motion restriction techniques. Students will be thoroughly trained to handle these tasks with precision and confidence.

This program offers a comprehensive learning experience designed to prepare future EMTs for the multifaceted challenges of their career, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism to succeed in emergency medical services.
