Over 240 hours of Didactic, Skills Training + Clinical Ride-Along Time at local hospitals and EMS agencies.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians provide a higher level of patient care, including advanced airway techniques, a greater variety of medication treatments, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. The advanced scope of practice of AEMTs and Paramedics requires a greater depth of understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. The Advanced EMT program prepares students to be pre-hospital professionals who provide basic and limited advanced emergency care for critical and emergent patients. The program helps students build upon their EMT knowledge in anatomy and physiology, medical emergency, cardiology and trauma.
Professionalism and Leadership (Affective Learning):
Students will develop the professional demeanor and interpersonal skills required to succeed as Advanced EMTs. They will cultivate empathy, integrity, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, meeting the expectations of both patients and healthcare teams. Additionally, they will demonstrate the leadership and decision-making capabilities necessary to manage complex medical emergencies effectively while working in a team-oriented environment.
Expanded Knowledge Base (Cognitive Development):
By the completion of the Advanced EMT (AEMT) program, students will demonstrate the ability to understand, integrate, and critically evaluate advanced clinical concepts essential for their role in prehospital emergency care. This includes a deeper understanding of airway management, advanced ventilation techniques, cardiac care and resuscitation, pharmacology, medical and trauma emergencies, obstetrics, gynecology, and EMS operations, allowing them to deliver a higher level of patient care in dynamic environments.
Advanced Skills Proficiency (Psychomotor Learning)
Graduates will acquire advanced technical skills, building upon the foundation of basic EMT training, to meet the demands of the AEMT role. Following the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, National EMS Education Standards, and National Model EMS Clinical Guidelines, students will master advanced procedures such as intravenous (IV) therapy, medication administration via multiple routes, advanced airway techniques, and more sophisticated patient assessments. This hands-on training ensures graduates can perform these life-saving interventions with accuracy and confidence.
This program equips students with the advanced knowledge, technical abilities, and professional behaviors needed to excel as Advanced EMTs, preparing them to deliver a higher standard of care in the fast-paced world of emergency medical services.
